About Us
Black Alder is a communications and narrative strategy firm built on the power of storytelling. It was founded in 2021 during the turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic and the widespread demand for justice. We partner with organizations, movements, creatives, and other changemakers to drive impactful, lasting change. Our success is rooted in the collective well-being of those around us, and we see our work as both a continuation of past efforts and a commitment to the future. By collaborating with organizers, activists, and storytellers, we create strategic narratives that help build stronger, more resilient communities.
Our Guiding Principles
Storytelling as a Tool for Change
We are driven by the power of storytelling to build connections and move us closer to justice.
From advancing political power within Black communities to challenging systems of violence and advocating for reproductive rights, we focus on the stories that reveal the inequities and injustices impacting our communities.
Rooted in Black Feminism, Queer, and Trans Liberation
“As Black women, we see Black feminism as the logical political movement to combat the manifold and simultaneous oppressions that all women of color face.” - Combahee River Collective
At Black Alder, our approach is rooted in an analysis of Black feminism, and Queer and Trans Liberation. None of us are free until all of us are free.
High-Impact, Low Ego
This is not about us, it’s about community. When called upon, we are stepping into capacity gaps across various ecosystems and formations to expand and deepen our collective impact.
